They can taste it. Manchester City failed to beat Crystal Palace on Saturday, and Liverpool has never been closer to potentially winning the Premier League. The Reds host Manchester United on Sunday with a chance to go 16 points clear at the top with 16 games remaining. But Jurgen Klopp doesn’t want his team to look too far ahead with a United team visiting that has the potential to win any game. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m. ET (), and you can watch it on fuboTV (Try for free).
Klopp addressed the media ahead of the game, saying that the team will be getting Fabinho and Joel Matip back for this clash, while stating how important it is to take points in this one.
“It’s a very, very important football game,” Klopp said, according to Liverpool’s official website. “Very important, like games against pretty much all opponents. That’s how it is. We have to learn dealing with games like this in the right manner. We did not do too bad in the past but we still can improve. I think the game at United is a good example. We were not at our best in a game where we should be because of the quality of the opponent. We were not bad that day but weren’t at our best. We have to make it more likely that we are at our best in a game like this. For this, you have to treat it like you treat all very, very important games for us. The next game is always the most important, so we don’t make it different.”
These two drew early in the season at Old Trafford, making United the only Premier League team so far to have not lost against the undefeated giants. On the other side, Eric Bailly is back healthy for United, though at this point he’s probably not a starter moving forward. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been dealing with injuries to six defenders, and late team news sees Marcus Rashford miss due to a back injury, but there is a chance here to steal a win and pull within just two points of the top four.
